WHAT TO EXPECT

Korean to English, in practice.

Run one of your own services through it during the free hours. Here is what to look for.

Hangul displays correctly in the Korean transcript and in downloaded transcripts.

Korean speech levels (존댓말) have no direct English equivalent; the translation carries the meaning in plain English rather than copying the form.

Set the speaker language to Korean.

KOREAN CHURCHES

One sanctuary, two ministries.

Many Korean churches have a Korean service for the first generation and an English Ministry for their children and grandchildren. On the Sundays they worship together, at Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving, the Korean sermon can carry English captions on the screen and on phones.

It works the other way too: when the English Ministry pastor preaches, Korean captions can follow for the parents.

What it costs.

KOREAN → ENGLISH FAQ

Common questions

Can our EM (English Ministry) and KM (Korean Ministry) share the same captions?

Yes. Both ministries read the same English captions during a combined service. Run Livefy at the back of the sanctuary, put the English captions on a side screen, and the EM members do not need a separate translation room.

How does Livefy handle Korean honorifics in translation?

English has no honorific verb endings, so the translation carries the meaning in plain, respectful English and does not try to copy the form. Test it on one of your own services first.

Is the delay the same for Korean as for European languages?

Korean goes through the same steps as every other language, and the captions appear within seconds, a word at a time.

What about Hanja (Chinese characters) used in classical theological terms?

Modern Korean Bible language is almost entirely Hangul. Older Sino-Korean terms are spoken aloud like any other word, so they are heard the same way; how well a particular term comes through is best checked on a recording of your own preacher.
