Interpreters

Professional standards ask for two interpreters per language, and each one works at most about six hours a day. From $557 each per day, the published United Nations rate, before booth and receiver hire.

The equipment alone

A booth, a transmitter and a receiver for every guest who needs one, delivered, set up and collected again: from $775 a day for the first booth, $575 for each other language, and receivers at $5 a guest beyond the first 10.

Livefy

Translation hours, bought once at $8 an hour. Each language uses its own hours, so an hour of talking in three languages uses three translation hours. The only hardware involved already belongs to your guests.

Before the doors open

Your speakers’ names. Your product names. Your acronyms.

Names and terms are what live translation most often gets wrong. Livefy has no word list to load for your event. With an Event Day or a Conference, we check them with you before the day.

  1. Send the agenda

    Speaker names, session titles, your organisation, the products and acronyms you use. A rough list is enough.

  2. Rehearse with your audio team

    Before the day, speakers or a stand-in say the names into the microphone, and we check how they come out in each language.

  3. Spell out the hard ones

    A name that still comes out wrong can go on a slide or in the programme, so your audience has the spelling in front of them.

Is this simultaneous interpretation for conferences?

It does the same job: each talk is translated in real time, as live captions on the screens and a translated voice on each guest’s phone. There are no interpreters, booths or receivers to hire.

How is this different from hiring interpreters?

Even at the UN system's published rate of $557 per interpreter per day, a full day needs two interpreters for each language: professional standards require at least two in every booth, and cap an interpreter’s day at two sessions of two and a half to three hours. Add booth and receiver hire and one day in three languages runs into thousands of dollars before anyone has spoken. Livefy needs no booth, no receivers and no headsets. Guests scan a QR code and listen on the phone already in their pocket.

What counts towards our hours?

The time translation runs, in each caption language. Pause stops translation during breaks and songs, so it need not run for the whole programme.
